Rec Sports responds to recent articles about Master Plan

The Division of Recreational Sports thanks the Student Services Finance Committee for their approval on Monday evening to move the Master Plan forward to referendum and looks forward to the final vote of approval on December 12, 2013. Rec Sports clarifies some statements made in recent campus newspapers:

Seg fee timeline: Rec Sports confirms the intention to raise segregated fees only when new facilities open so that students only pay for the facilities and services currently available to them.

Seg fee amount: The Daily Cardinal and Badger Herald articles state that the student segregated fee amount could increase to $108 per semester. Given the current Master Plan, student segregated fees could increase by $108 per semester, increasing the fees to just below the Big Ten average. Rec Sports has maintained this as a goal since beginning conversations with student government and students on campus last year.

Student Fees

Project timeline: The Badger Herald article states that the construction projects would take 30 years; however, the Master Plan projects are set to be completed by summer 2022. The bonding on the facilities would be set at 30 years.
